Vegan MoFo Day#30-Peanut Butter 'Oats In a Jar'

oats in a pb jar5
look at that chunk o'peanut butter!

so this kind if brilliant idea is really popular and this was my first time trying it,and i'm pretty sure that chocolatecoveredkatie either 'invented' it,or at least made it really popular.

oats in a pb jar3

this is my practically empty jar of peanut butter, and the idea is that you make oatmeal in it.then eat it.and it's like amazing-er than just oatmeal with peanut butter stirred in or added.

oats in a pb jar4

adding museli 'mix'...

oats in a pb jar1

heated unsweetened original almond breeze...

oats in a pb jar2

shake and let sit...

oats in a pb jar6

and i like my oats cold when i eat em,so i put it in the fridge after adding some banana chunks and then ate later in the afternoon.

as you can tell from the picture at the beginning of the post, mine was super peanut butter-y.amazing.best way to eat cereal/oatmeal.just make sure that you always have a practically(i guess) empty peanut butter jar on hand.

Vegan MoFo Day#29-Peanut Butter and Pomegranate-a Surpising Match Made In Heaven

up until yesterday i thought that pomegranates weren't that great, weren't too flavourful, too much of a pain to eat, over prices, and just plain less-than-mediocre.

then theresa did a still life of a cut one and left me with half of it.

and i ate it like so,and that opinion at once changed forever.

DSCF8945

it was like eating an incredibly juicy, exotic,pb&j.
yeah,it was kind of amazing, and will soon make an actual pb&j with pomegranate arils and pomegranate jelly(i think crofter's makes one...)

Vegan MoFo Day#27-Peanut Butter,Jelly,Grilled Onions,Brussel Sprout,and Tomato Sammich

peanut butter,grilled onions,brussel sprout,tomato sammich1
Peanut Butter,Grape Jelly,Grilled Onions,Brussel Sprout,and Tomato Sammich

okay, how good is jelly in savoury things?
i quess i never really thought of it until i got this smucker's jelly cookbook which uses jelly in just about everything, savoury and sweet.and then i thought about that rayray article from last winter for pb&j 'wings'.

peanut butter,grilled onions,brussel sprout,tomato sammich2

so i decided to pair up pb&j with grilled onions, brussel sprouts, and tomatoes.
it's kind of all about the grilled onions and salt n pepper b/c it way balances out the sweetness, but combined with the tomato is like eating burger toppings.and peanut butter on burgers works, amirite?
and brussel sprouts just because it needed a green and why lettuce when cooked brussels was what i had and i guess makes it feel seasonal.

i mean,look at those grape-jellied grilled onions!delish,right?!try iiiit!or atleast something similar...

Vegan MoFo Day#23-Peanut Butter and Jelly Sammich and 49th Parallel Espresso!

DSCF8383

DSCF8385
pb&j and soy cortado made with 49th parallel epic espresso,el beit, brooklyn.

how's about a silly product review?!
here we have a peanut butter and jelly sammich on amy's bread fro elbeit,a coffee shop,in williamsburg.
they serve 49th parallel coffee-roasted in vancouver, supplier to caffe artigiano, basically the best coffee roasters in vancouver.ben and i,when i volunteered at,and he worked for earthsave canada, would go to almost everyday.
it's an amazing cafe,too,try the siphon coffee,even though it's $7.
BUT we're not in vancouver,we're in new york,nd we're talking about peanut butter, too.
anyways,i felt ridiculous buying a pb&j but i mean, when else would i enjoy the novelty of feeling at home in vancouver with espresso and ordering a pb&j?so i got it.grape jelly, crunchy peanut butter, sourdough bread i'm pretty sure,so it was interesting, really good,i mean, its kinna hard to eff up a pb&j.

DSCF8381
the cortado was good too.espresso was really chocolate-y,bittersweet,more of a cocoa nib essence.better than the last time i visited.but,i mean, didn't compare to the shop in vancouver.i rarely talk about how great things are in vancouver,i mean,it's not my favourite place, but the coffee from 49th parallel was a lot better than at el beit.not bad, though.

Vegan MoFo Day#19-Peanut Butter and I Officially Make the Best Banana Bread Ever and More Stumptown Coffee

i don't even know how to drink a latte...

peanut butter-ed banana bread and a soy latte.
eaten at stumptown coffee,in the lobby of the ace hotel.
baked by me.

here is a story.
i've been going to the stumptown in the lobby of the ace hotel just about every single day(minus 2 or 3) for the past 2 weeks now.it started with a really incredible ethiopian yirgachaffe which tasted like peach tea as it cooled, and continued by consistently getting amazing,molasses-y shots of espresso.
i know that i can bake,so baked goods aren't really that huge of a deal to me when i see them.i know i could make it myself and maybe better, blah blah blah,no big deal.but in the pastry case there, they have plain chunks of banana bread baked in a bundt pan,and seeing it every day made me start REALLY craving banana bread.plain, old banana bread.ridiculous, right?it's so easy, simple,i used to make banana bread in my sleep.but i don't have an oven, and i guess disance makes the heart grow fonder, and i really really wanted banana bread.
and then i kinna wanted it with coffee.so i baked some at a friends house.same one i've made a million times, with a million variations, for my bakesales,as muffins, etc.and i brought it with me to the cafe, and used my filled up stampcard for a free drink, and figured i'd get something expensive, even if i don't even know how to drink a latte, and it was fantastic, and now all can be right with the world.
oh,and i ate it,in my favourite way...with peanut butter,of course.

Vegan MoFo Day#16-Peanut Butter Product Review-a Few Energy Bars

t
okay,so this is a peanut butter clif builder bar.they don't sell the builder bars in canada, and so i was pretty excited to try them because even though i'm not a fan of regular clif/luna bars(i know, like the whole entire rest of the world is...w/e...)i had heard SO many good things about these and how they "tasted like a candy bar" and were "WAY better than clif bars" and blah blah blah.
so i broke down and bought one(it was $2.29!geze)and honestly,i don't see what the hype was whatsoever.
yeah,it was okay, but all clif/luna bars have that weird taste that i can't get past.yeah, there was peanut butter, and yeah there was chocolate, but there's that like protein-powder/supplement aftertaste/undertone that i can't get past or down with.

i remember the first time i ever had a clif bar at all was at camp in 2005 and we planned out snacks and they were an option,so i ate those everyday, the peanut butter(crunchy or something?)ones, and yeah, thought they were just okay.same weird oaty supplement-y taste.i told the woman who did all the meal planning this when we talked about food and she,who was super active and ate a lot and all that said "i know what you mean,i don't understand the whole 'powerbar' thing.honestly, when i'm active or workout,i think the best fuel/snack is just a good ol' pb&j.it's just as easy..."and y'know what, that's exactly how i feel,a pb&j is a lot more gratifying and satisfying.
i ended up crushing it up and putting it in a bowl of cereal, then it was nice,i guess because of the cereal, almond milk, and
everything else.

peanut butter & jam & granola sammich

and i guess if you need that something 'extra',you can just make a pb&j and granola...
mmm.
thanks for the idea,theresa.

now,this one,was just better.
i'm not really into lara bars either,i mean,i love all the ingredients, but would rather just eat them whole or by themselves or in a different war than mashed up,but into a bar,and stuck with an expensive price tag.
this actually tasted like a pb&j though.i mean,it was a bit dry,but with a glass of almond milk,it was yummy.i approve, and i guess,it's probably the only lara bar i'd buy again if i had to buy one.

made me really crave medjool dates, though,an old favourite.

Vegan MoFo Day#6-Peanut Butter & Coffee pt.2-Peanut Butter-Tasting Coffee?!

guatemala
clover-brewed guatemalan @ cafe grumpy(chelsea)

well...not quite.though this cup of coffee, which was one of the first roasts actually roasted by cafe grumpy themselves was delicious,it didn't taste like peanut butter,i thought that it juuuust might since it was described as having a:
"peanut brittle"
peanut brittle sweetness.

and it totally did-the cup had a salty/sweet sweetness and aftertaste that was was slightly spicy and warming, like cinnamon, and very nutty, and really, the 'peanut brittle' comparison was spot-on.
so,while no,the coffee didn't taste like drinking peanut butter,it shred many qualities that peanut butter beholds, and was incredibly enjoyable nonetheless.i'm actually really excited to try more roasts that grumpy is doing themselves!
and who knows, maybe one day i'll come across a cup of coffee that does taste like drinking liquid peanut butter.for better or worse.

Vegan MoFo Day#5-Peanut Butter,Pickle, and Purple Carrot Sammich

Peanut Butter,Pickle, & Purple Carrot Sammich.

officially the best sammich ever.it was made with caramelized onion focaccia breads, crunchy maranatha peanut butter, kosher dill pickles, grated purple carrots, and curly green kale.all the stuff, sans peanut butter, was from the farmer's market at union square on saturday

free pickles!
the pickles were from rick's picks and were amazing and free, too!i asked the guy if they were selling any singular big ones and he said no,but gave me the jar they were sampling out of,which was pretty full.

i guess some people don't know that carrots are purple?

i love this sammich because every ingredient is just so good.i mean salty and sweet peanut butter, crunchy and sweet crrots, crunchy and somewhat bitter kale, and pickles...pickles rule, and the bread was really big and soft and the caramelized onions really made it,but i think other bread would be good, too.

oh,and i brought blythe a sammich too since about a month ago we were talking about how good peanut butter pickles sammiches are and both her and brad agree that it was amazing, and seriously probably the best sammich ever.

Vegan MoFo Day#3-Peanut Butter & Coffee Pt.1-Stumptown,PDX,NYC,Jess,and Basically Being Really Vegan.

soy cappuccino & peanut butter-ed banana @ stumptown,ace hotel,nyc
as you may know from previous posts and elsewhere,i really love good coffee and am kinna an amateur coffee nerd/snob/connoisseur,and obviously i really love peanut butter.so i am going to write about them both together.for vegan mofo i'll start a series of coffee and peanut butter and this will be part one.
obviously portland is a crazy vegan mecca but also stumptown coffee is from there,so i figure it'd be an appropriate place to start, especially since they just opened a stumptown in the new ace hotel here in nyc less than a month ago, which i wrote about here.

i think coffee and peanut butter go together.probably because i consume them everyday, not always together, but still, sometimes at the same time.i had a cappuccino at stumptown, which kinna made me feel out of my element since i would generally get just espresso,

like i did the previous morning since i didn't have class until 3,maybe a macchiato, but usually i like to keep it pure, and kind of felt like i was having dessert, but i guess that made it okay to do this...

sacrilege.but i did it for the vegans.

it was really good.hairbender is generally pretty bright and milk chocolate-y and and not as straightforward and bittersweet like blackcat(something popular and widely available...)tends to be,and had a pretty spicy, like cinnamon and clove, hints.

i enjoyed stumptown a lot the last 2 times i was in portland, and have had it at absolutely amazing places, such as barista, and most of the time i'd get coffee with jess, who basically is veganism in portland, who even has a website called stumptown vegans, and really everything just comes full circle and the whole entire world makes sense.yay!

oh yeah...

there was a breakfast in the lobby of the hotel.the lady let me have one.i guess because i had peanut butter?
